Yarra Community Housing
Yarra Public Housing Future Planning
Get involved and help to make our estates and community a better place to live for all residents.
The Yarra-wide Public Housing Transition Group has been working very hard to develop a Yarra-wide public housing governance structure and a community plan focussed on the residents of the Collingwood, Fitzroy and Richmond estates. The governance structure consists of a Yarra-wide Public Housing Board representing residents on all public housing residents in Yarra, and an Estate Governance Group on the Fitzroy, Collingwood and Richmond Estates. This is a great opportunity for residents to continue to make their community a better place to live now and into the future.
This work has built on extensive consultation from hundreds of residents that have attended a series of workshops, forums and information sessions held in 2009 and 2010 to give their ideas and input into the future for their Estates.
Collingwood, Fitzroy and Richmond Estate Governance Group
The residents of each estate (Collingwood, Fitzroy and Richmond) will elect eleven (11) member local representatives. The representatives will come from a combination of the largest ethnic groups for each estate (8), and existing groups (tenant associations and estate advisory groups - 3).
This new governance structure aims to improve and increase tenant participation across Yarra, assist public housing residents in many aspects of their lives, help make their community a better place to live and improve the responsiveness of government, local services and the community in supporting public housing residents
Election Process
Any current public housing resident can nominate for the Estate Group on their estate.
Residents should nominate for the ethnic group that they wish to represent and feel most connected to. Each ethnic group will hold an election to elect their representative. It is the responsibility of each of the communities to self organise for the nomination and the election of their representative. Elections will be fair and transparent and will be monitored by independent agencies.
How to nominate?
Please fill out the attached Nomination Form, sign it and if you are nominating someone else, ensure it is signed by the candidate and return it to the Nomination Box located in the security booth of each tower on your estate and in your local housing office.
Nominations close: 5pm - Monday 2 August
